Kat Layfield is a French Classical Riding Instructor and qualified Master Saddle Fitting Consultant (MSFC)
Kat's top priority is the mental and physical well-being of the horses and ponies she trains and fits saddles to. She uses a holistic, sensitive, empathetic and educated approach and is able to offer her clients a comprehensive service drawing on the two different but symbiotic areas of her expertise.
Clients do not need to be both training and saddle fitting clients to benefit from Kat's expertise. Whilst Kat has many clients who use her for both services, she also welcomes clients who would like solely saddle fitting or solely training input.
Training
Kat's training techniques are respectful and are achieved without force and without compromising the horse's physiological and psychological welfare. Riders learn how to effectively communicate with their horses to improve relaxation, balance, straightness, true-lightness, harmony and performance. Kat offers lessons and clinics in French Classical Equitation, including; straightness training; in-hand lateral work; dismounted workshops for rider asymmetry; lectures on correct equine posture and rein contact issues. Kat is currently training with the world-renowned Philippe Karl to become one of his 'School of Légèreté' Instructors.
Saddle Fitting
As a qualified saddle fitter, Kat helps horses and riders with everyday saddle fitting issues, complex fitting problems and those requiring remedial saddle fitting. During a saddle fitting consultation, Kat places emphasis on educating horse owners to become more informed about the saddle fitting process and have a better understanding of their horses individual needs. Kat stocks a wide range of adjustable saddles as well as offering bespoke made-to-measure saddles. Kat has spent many years sourcing saddles, girths, numnahs and trees with 'horse friendly' design features and a proven record of success. She only stocks products she would use on her own horses.
